Talismans: Power And Charm

23 September - 5 October

Clare Peake, 'A Thread of a Spider (Portal B)', 2024, muslin baby wraps, hair, gold thread, plastic eyes, 160 x 160cm.

Artists

Angela Bakkar, Jacky Cheng, Vanessa Margetts, Clare Peake, The Wattleseed Collective. Presented By Kimberley Arts Network

Description

New works by Western Australian artists and Indigenous women through the Yiriman Project.

Located in the heritage surrounds of the old Sailmakers Shed, Talismans explores the magnetism of handmade objects; the meaning and stories they carry through their creation, and their aesthetic charm that draws us to them.

Working across a range of media from ceramics to paper, wood, textiles and video, the artists delve into making; connecting process, tradition and culture with personal responses. The works are imbued with actions, imaginings and spirit. They are delightfully appealing, but also have an underlying gravitas that has something to say; they brim with their own unique character.

During the exhibition, there will be an Artists Panel Discussion and a weekend community activity.
