Description
Contemporary makers innovate using the traditions of old as they create pieces that critique power dynamics. Aligned with the IOTA24 theme of ‘Codes in Parallel’, the exhibition investigates systems of power as they are enacted upon bodies, through the medium of fibre and textiles.
The concept utilises a broad definition of the medium to include works on linen and canvas, irregular and convention-defying paintings, installations, stitched works and large-scale embroidery, weaving, clothing and costumes.
The displayed works are drawn from The University of Western Australia’s collections alongside newly commissioned works and loans.
