Soft-Ground Etching Workshop

28 September @ 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Shelley Cowper and Elmari Steyn, Homestead (detail), paper, etching, cotton thread, graphite, 54 × 62 × 60cm each. Photo: Elmari Steyn.

Description

Explore the unique possibilities and mark-making options of soft-ground etching on copper plate.

Soft-ground has a high wax content which creates unique possibilities for line variation, embossed paper, leaves, flowers and textiles to be imbedded into it, under pressure. When etched, this results in soft organic forms, lines
and edges.

Specialist materials will be supplied at a cost to each student added to the course fee, such as: copper-plate, printing paper, soft-ground, printing inks and modifiers, gloves, contact paper, acetate, masking tape, transfer paper, ferric chloride, cleaning agents, proofing-paper and butchers paper, spray paint, etc.

This workshop is part of the Amygdala exhibition at Painted Tree Gallery.
