Artists

Angela Ferolla

Description

Angela displays cotton organdie capes exploring applique, textile processes and West Australian flowers through a kind of neo pop-expressionism/ surrealism. The layered capes evoke a tension between abundant life and a delicate, transient world with emotionally and psychologically charged floral imagery.

While Angela explores her personal connection to landscape, internal and external, she reinvents the flower as pop icon and puts it on a figure to re-establish the viewer’s connection to the environment, allowing materials and process to dictate the final aesthetic.

Furthermore, Angela is committed to an ecological use of recycling offcuts of fabrics. Many of the flora that have inspired these pieces grow around the Kwinana area. A large backdrop of appliques, created in workshops with Kwinana schools, will adorn the back wall of the exhibition space.
