About

Trish Little’s art practice was inspired by the history and memory imbued in the objects of material culture and influenced by the colours and light of the Western Australian land and sky. Little’s career in the arts extended over 40 years. Her works have been exhibited in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions, seen by local, national and international audiences in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Fremantle, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Japan, Thailand, Belfast and Hungary.

A recipient of numerous awards and commissions, her artworks are held in collections both in Australia and overseas. Little served as a Board Member of Craftwest, an assessment panel member for ArtsWA and as an executive committee member for Textile Exchange Project.

Artist Statement

The meme mat

"Commenced in the year 2000 the meme mat was my tactile and sculptural response to a request for a self portrait.

At the time I wrote: ‘Every time I went off to be introspective, contemplative, and objectively subjective, someone wanted me for something.’

Obviously made at a very busy time of my life, and yet I no longer remember what those so very important ‘interruptions’ were…

Now I am dying, and a conclusion needs to be found to ‘finish’ the mat – up until this point one end has been unresolved, undecided, in all those years I had been unable to visualize an ’ending’ to my mat, my portrait of self.

But my mat must have an end (or my stories will all unravel) and so I slowly fill in one last ‘me’ with a very dull and funeral black, hardly readable at all, but marking the space."
