Gaurav Jai Gupta

Gaurav Jai Gupta trained in fashion and graphics at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, after which he continued his education at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, where he specialized in woven textiles. He was commissioned to be a trend reporter for one year at The Design Lab, Central St. Martins College of Arts and Design, London, and has collaborated with Jimmy Choo for an international project between London, Tokyo, and Delhi.

Gupta has won several awards including Top 5 Designers for Vogue India Fashion Fund 2013, Top 5 Designers British Council, and Elle Creative Entrepreneur Awards, India 2010. His label Akaaro, which he started in 2010, is known for its distinctive fabrics created by the unconventional blending of stainless steel, merino wool, pure silk and cotton. Gupta is passionate about developing technologically advanced weaves while staying relevant to traditional crafts and highlighting the importance of handcrafting before machine. Akaaro actively seeks sustainable collaborations between materials and minds, ensuring the Handmade and Designed in India movements are fashion forward and with an eye to the future.
