Cyrus Kabiru
In 2007 Cyrus Kabiru won the Young Innovator Award (Sandbox Network UK). Since then he has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows internationally. He is known for crafting amazing spectacles, cycles and radios from the trash that he collects on the streets of his hometown Nairobi.
In 2019, Kabiru was a resident artist at the Africa First Residency in collaboration with START incubator project in Israel; preceded by the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) Artist in Residency Programme at the Segera Retreat in Laikipia, Kenya in 2018 and the Fundació Han Nefkens residency in Barcelona, Spain in 2016.
Recent talks and presentations include Owning our Stories through Creative Media & the Arts Industry, African Society Cambridge (2021), Comparative Futurisms | Afro-Asian Perspectives, Art Basel Hong Kong (2019); Re-Visioning Africa Through the Creative Lens with Cyrus Kabiru, Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Washington DC, USA (2018), and “The Young. The Wise. The Undiscovered” at the TED Talk Conference in Los Angeles, USA in 2013.
